Pilates

Alameda, CA

  • The magic is the method.

The apparatus is the whole Pilates approach — not just the mat, not just the reformer. Classical Pilates has the power to reform the body and support long-term movement health, meeting you exactly where you are and taking you somewhere you didn't know you could go.

MY COACHING METHOD

  • Personalized

Every body is different. We meet where you are.

  • Classical

Pilates is based on a set of exercises that form a basis for all movements. Trust in the method.

  • Playful

It is totally okay to laugh sometimes—this is serious but we don’t have to be.

WORK WITH CHARLIE

Private & Duet Sessions — Ballena Bay By appointment, Charlie teaches private and duet sessions out of her studio at Ballena Bay — steps from the water, with a view of San Francisco across the Bay. Up to three people by appointment. A duet is a wonderful way to share the experience with a friend, with all the focused attention of a private session and a little more room to laugh at yourselves along the way.

Jumpboard Classes — KIN Pilates, Park Street Charlie also teaches jumpboard classes at KIN Pilates, above School of Rock on Park Street in Alameda. She loves this work — and it shows.

About charlie

I've always had a knack for throwing my body into the deep end. Whether it was walking backwards in 4" heels to the sways of tango, wildland firefighting, trapeze lessons, or diving headfirst into the chaos of raising twins, my life has been a series of bold (sometimes questionable) movement choices.

When I first tried Pilates I was held together by sheer willpower, ruined knees from running, bunions from my love affair with aforementioned heels, and a core that had taken early retirement. I showed up to Pilates in pieces — but with the guidance of incredibly skilled teachers (and a lot of sweating), I began to put myself back together.

Through the subtle genius of Joe Pilates, Romana, and the Contrology greats, I fell in love with a practice that's both maddeningly precise and deeply rewarding. My teaching journey began when a dear friend, after laughing at my office-worker slump, suggested I try something I cared deeply about — helping others heal, too, with focused movements.

Pilates taught me that even the most stubborn body parts can learn new tricks, and that's one of the things I'm most excited to share with my students. Whether you're feeling strong as a trapeze artist or more like a tired office chair, let's find your strength.
